Google is making it easier and easier for search engine users to get the results they want. For internet marketers and search engine optimizers this can be both a blessing and troublesome. A lot of individuals have internet on their mobile phones so that they can conduct business, check emails, and also find locations or information while they are out. The programme is called Search with My Location for Google. There are a number of mobile phones that can download this programme. How it works is that the consumer searches for something on their phone. The GPS in the mobile phone helps Google locate where they are, thus giving them information such as directions on how to get to the nearest location of what they searched for. It may seem as though this is all for the consumer, but consider a moment what would happen if someone is searching for candle making supplies that you sell. They may be located two blocks from your store, and all they have to do is drive straight down the road they are on to get to you. Unfortunately Google results are askew and Google sends them down the wrong street. Frustratingly the consumer can’t find you, you lose a sale, and the person may never try to find your website. It is imperative that any business with a local address has ensured the information Google supplies is 100 percent accurate. The fix can be done quickly and should be completed as soon as you see the error. You also have a programme called Street View for Google Mobile that can give directions to your local business. Google is not the only one offering these options to consumers. Yahoo even has their own local listing options. This means you, as the internet marketer, need to check all search engines to ensure your data is correct. Yahoo is a little different in what they offer. They have reviews that can be posted along with the results. This means you can help target consumers by getting better reviews and even having others add reviews about your site with keyword targeting. Yahoo’s option is not set up for mobile phone use as yet, but it can’t be far behind. MSN has Live Search Maps for their local business options. Like Google the information will be informative and detailed, which means you need to double check its accuracy. Don’t let someone else enter the data; enter it yourself. |
