EAGAN, Minn. – Steve Sarvi, Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL)-endorsed candidate for Congress in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, issued the following statement today regarding John Kline’s votes on the supplemental appropriations bill that the House of Representatives voted on yesterday:

“The House of Representatives has just passed a landmark Farm Bill – a bill that plots out a healthy future for not just our farmers, but for all of us.

“Wendell Berry once said, ‘If you eat, you’re involved in agriculture.’ Today, the truth is much broader than that. Not only if you eat, but also if you’re interested in a secure and practical energy future for our country.

Steve Sarvi had a soldier's eye view of United States foreign policy while serving in Kosovo and Iraq.

But in deployments over the past five years, the 43-year-old decided he no longer liked what he was seeing.

"I got a sense that they no longer looked up to us as a nation," the National Guard member recalled from encounters with people in Kosovo.

As expected, Steve Sarvi won DFL endorsement Saturday in the 2nd Congressional District and will run against George W. Bush — oops, make that incumbent John Kline — in November. In the process of winning endorsement, both Sarvi and the DFL made frequent references to the president in setting the stage for the congressional campaign.

Former Watertown, Minn., Mayor Steve Sarvi was endorsed by the DFL Party for the state's 2nd Congressional District at the district's convention Monday, May 5, in Fairbault.

Sarvi will take on Republican incumbent Congressman John Kline of Lakeville.

Sarvi said Kline has been going down the wrong path with President Bush in the occupation of Iraq.

Army vet Steve Sarvi got the DFL nod Saturday to take the fight to U.S. Rep. John Kline (R-Lakeville) in this November’s election.

Sarvi and second-time candidate Peter Idusogie appealed to party delegates at the 2nd Congressional District’s DFL Convention, held at Faribault High School. But before their votes were announced, Idusogie took the stage to withdraw his name from consideration and endorse Sarvi.
